SUMMARY:Burien CERT training begins
DESCRIPTION:Burien’s fall 2026 Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Basic Course\, an in-person training program for people who want to learn disaster response skills\, begins Wednesday\, Sept. 9. \nThe Burien CERT Basic Course will meet from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at Fire Station #28 in Burien each Wednesday beginning Sept. 9\, with a final drill scheduled for Saturday\, Nov. 7\, according to course information. \nParticipants are asked to attend each session\, and a CERT certificate of completion will be awarded after the training and final drill are completed. \nThe Community Emergency Response Team Program educates individuals in disaster preparedness for hazards that may affect the community. \n“CERT training is for everyone. There is a job for everyone\,” according to the course announcement. \nTraining will cover basic disaster response skills\, including fire safety\, search and rescue\, team organization and disaster medical operations. Organizers said the skills learned in class and during exercises can help CERT members assist others in their neighborhoods or workplaces after an emergency when professional responders are not immediately available. \nThe course is open to people who live or work in the City of Burien. The training may be especially relevant for residents and workers in Burien and nearby South King County communities\, where regional emergencies can affect transportation\, workplaces\, schools and neighborhoods. \nRegister Online Here

DESCRIPTION:Burien Indivisible will hold its inaugural meeting on Wednesday\, Sept. 9 at the Boulevard Park Library\, according to the group. \nThe meeting is scheduled for 5:30 to 7 p.m. Sept. 9\, in the group meeting room at the library (map below). \nThe group said community members are invited to learn about its work in Burien. \nBurien Indivisible said it formed in April in response to an increase in ICE presence in the community. The group began with twice-monthly rallies at 1st Ave South and SW 148th Street in front of the Burien Arch. \nSince then\, the group said it has added regular postcard writing to potential voters across the nation\, collaboration with rapid response teams and connections with other Indivisible chapters across South King County. \nEvent Schedule\n\nBurien Chooses Love Rally is held from Noon to 2 p.m. every second and fourth Saturday at 1st Ave South and SW 148th Street in front of the Burien Arch. The group describes the rally as a celebration of unity and inclusion.\nGet Out the Vote postcard meetups from 4 to 6 p.m. every first and third Monday of the month.
