SUMMARY:Nov. 29 is 'Artists Sunday' event – help support local Artists!
DESCRIPTION:The City of Burien announced this week that it is joining a nationwide alliance of 775 artists and economic development organizations called Artists Sunday™ to make Sunday\, Nov. 29\, 2020 the “biggest art shopping day of the year.” \nThe city is encouraging the community to support the local arts this year by visiting ArtistsSunday.com and searching for Burien artists. \nPlanted squarely in the middle of the largest holiday shopping weekend of the year\, Artists Sunday aims to make the Sunday after Thanksgiving the arts’ most profitable day of the year\, boosting sales for creators of art\, crafts\, and handmade items while encouraging consumers to purchase art as holiday gifts. \nMembers include 650 individual artisans as well as 125 state art agencies\, municipalities\, counties\, chambers of commerce and non-profit organizations\, representing thousands of additional artists. Artists Sunday encompasses a full spectrum of the arts from painting\, sculpture\, and photography to clothing\, jewelry\, pottery\, and a range of handcrafted items that can be both practical and beautiful. Performance art is also included. Artists Sunday is hoping to make this an annual tradition. \n“Burien has a vibrant creative economy\,” said Chris Craig\, economic development manager for the City of Burien. “Unfortunately\, many artists have been hit hard by the current economic slowdown. By joining Artists Sunday\, we hope Burien will come out to support the livelihoods of these vital members of our community by purchasing one-of-a-kind gifts for the holidays.” \nArtists\, artisans\, and craftspeople can sign up for a free listing in the Artists Directory\, which helps consumers find artists by name\, type of work\, city\, state\, and country. Links to each artist’s website\, as well as Facebook\, Twitter\, or Instagram accounts\, are also listed. Participation is free to all commercial artists and craftsmen as well as non-commercial organizations and agencies with an interest in supporting the arts. \n \nFor more information\, visit ArtistsSunday.com.\n

SUMMARY:BAT Theatre's comedy 'Hay Fever' has its finalé performance Sunday\, Nov. 29
DESCRIPTION:Noël Coward’s witty comedy ‘Hay Fever‘ at BAT Theatre’s virtual/online 2020 Shelter-in-place Season II has its finalé performance on Sunday\, Nov. 29\, 2020. \n“Here is your chance for a much-needed laugh in these challenging times with BAT Theatre’s live online production of Noël Coward’s witty comedy Hay Fever.” \nThe show runs for four performances from Nov. 21 through Nov. 29 as part of BAT’s Shelter-in-place Season II. These are rehearsed performances – complete with costumes\, props\, scene changes\, music and more.\nCoward’s comedy follows the eccentric Bliss family during a weekend of misdirection that is anything but relaxing for their unsuspecting guests. \nHay Fever is a hilarious primer on how not to entertain visitors. Judith Bliss\, a recently retired actress for whom all the world is a stage\, never met a moment she couldn’t turn the spotlight on herself. When her self-absorbed progeny—Sorel and Simon—argue in her presence\, Judith manages to divert their attention to her needs\, which are bottomless. \nJudith invites a devoted fan\, a strapping young boxer named Sandy Tyrell\, to the Bliss country home for a bit of flirting. She is not amused to discover that her daughter\, Sorel\, has asked an older man\, the assured diplomat Richard Greatham\, for the weekend. Meanwhile\, Simon has arranged for his crush\, Myra Arundel\, to come over for a cuddle. Completing the guestlist\, novelist father David Bliss has invited flapper Jackie Coryton to the house for “research purposes.” \nWith no advance notice\, the housekeeper\, Clara\, is fretting about running out of rooms and food for the unexpected guests. The mischief escalates as the romantic pairings keep changing and the Blisses’ familial rivalries intensify. \nThe performances are live online via Zoom so performers and audience can stay safely distanced in their own locations. Audiences get a chance to talk with the actors after the show. \nThe Cast and Director\nUnder the skilled direction of Rachel Rene\, the talented cast includes Kassey Castro (Simon)\, Adrian Cerrato (Richard)\, Hannah Kathline (Jackie)\, Olivia Kridle (Sorel)\, Noelle Mestres (Clara)\, Sara Schweid (Myra)\, Steph Sola (Judith)\, Aaron Ussery (Sandy) and Rex Waters (David). \nTICKETS AND SCHEDULE\nPerformances are: \n\n\n\nSaturday\, Nov. 21 at 8 p.m.\nSunday\, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m.\nSaturday\, Nov. 28 at 8 p.m.\nSunday\, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m.\n\n\n\nAs always\, BAT’s Shelter-in-place Seasons are pay-what-you-will. If money is tight during Covid\, see the show for as little as $1. If money is not so tight\, help keep BAT alive during COVID-19 with a higher donation of any size. \nFor tickets\, go to www.burienactorstheatre.org or click here. \n“BAT looks forward to seeing you at the show!”\n

Wait\, someone is calling in. For Better celebrates the strength of love\, family and friendship in the face those things that distance us. \n“Coble has a knack for capturing our cultural zeitgeist…It’s all ridiculously fun” \n— Akron Beacon Journal \nThe performances are live online via Zoom so performers and audience can stay safely distanced in their own locations. Audiences get a chance to talk with the actors after the show. \nThe Cast and Director\nUnder the skilled direction of Isaiah C. SUMMARY:BAT Theatre's live online comedy 'For Better' continues Sunday\, Dec. 13
DESCRIPTION:Can technology bring two would-be lovers\, kept apart by distance\, together in BAT Theatre’s live online production of Eric Coble’s comedy For Better? \nThe show runs for four performances – from Dec. 12 through Dec. 20 – as part of BAT’s Shelter-in-place Season II. These are rehearsed performances\, complete with costumes\, props\, scene changes\, music and more. \nA romantic comedy for the digital age\, For Better asks the eternal question for our times: Do the bride and groom really need to be in the same country to go on a honeymoon? \nKaren and Max are getting married. That is\, if their nomadic jobs ever let them be in the same city at the same time. \nBut between them and wedded bliss are a blizzard of intercepted phone calls\, erotic emails\, online bridal gown shopping\, and lost cell signals. Complicating matters are Karen’s friends and family\, who have mixed feelings about her marriage to a man they have never met. \nCan love conquer all? Can you hear me now? Wait\, someone is calling in. For Better celebrates the strength of love\, family and friendship in the face those things that distance us. \n“Coble has a knack for capturing our cultural zeitgeist…It’s all ridiculously fun” \n— Akron Beacon Journal \nThe performances are live online via Zoom so performers and audience can stay safely distanced in their own locations. Audiences get a chance to talk with the actors after the show. \nThe Cast and Director\nUnder the skilled direction of Isaiah C. Crowson\, the talented cast includes Jamey Cheek (Wally)\, Annie Hirsch-St. John (Lizzie)\, Alexandra Novotny (Francine)\, V.J. Orduna (Michael)\, Jessica Robins (Karen) and Asa Sholdez (Stuart). \nTickets and Show Information” \nPerformances are: \n\n\n\nSat. Dec. 12 at 8 p.m.\nSun. Dec. 13 at 2 p.m.\nSat.
