DESCRIPTION:Local Artist Maureen Hoffmann and her exhibit ‘Italian Stone: Artist’s Muse’ will be celebrated with an Opening Reception at the Highline Heritage Museum on Friday\, May 5\, 2023. \nHosted by Burien Arts\, Hoffmann’s reception will run from 6 – 7 p.m.\, and her art will be on exhibit at the museum from May – June\, 2023. \nA second reception for Artists United will run from 7 – 8 p.m. \nAdmission to both receptions is free. \nHere’s more info on Hoffmann\, courtesy Burien Arts: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPulling from her 60\,000 photos taken in Italy over 15 years\, Maureen has combined photos with graphic overlays for one-of-a-kind monoprints. Her works include images of Milan\, Florence\, Venice\, monuments\, cobblestones\, manuscripts\, and textiles. \nA graphic designer for forty-five years (forty of them with her own business)\, Maureen works both independently and collaboratively. Her clients include children’s book writers\, hospitals\, accountants\, architects\, consultants\, museums\, contractors\, rag merchants\, lighting designers\, engineers\, copywriters\, food brokers\, and insurance companies\, among others. She is also a web designer. \nNamed Burien Citizen of the Year\, 2013\, Maureen founded and runs Walk/Bike Burien (WABI )\,  a program of guided walks and rides around town. DESCRIPTION:From our friends at WABI Burien: \nThis month the Waterland Walkers will have another special walk\, visiting the Redondo area and the MaST Center Aquarium this Saturday\, May 20\, 2023. \n\nDate & Time: Meet at 11:00 am on Saturday May 20\, 2023.\nMeeting Location: Redondo Pier\, south of the MAST Center at 28203 Redondo Beach Drive South.\nWalking Itinerary: First we will walk the scenic Redondo boardwalk along the water\, return with a short detour at the Bubbleator\, then back to the Aquarium which is open until 2:00 pm.\n\nEveryone is welcome to visit the Aquarium as long as they want\, viewing the 15 tanks displaying over 250 native Puget Sound sealife. There are other displays on the health of Puget Sound and what we can all do to help the sealife. Donations are welcome at the MAST Center\, which is run by Highline College. SUMMARY:Info Night for local Robotics teams will be Tuesday\, May 23
DESCRIPTION:Two local robotics teams will be hosting an information night for students and their families on Tuesday\, May 23\, 2023\, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. \n\nTekerz Robotics and Skunk Works Robotics are competitive robotics teams based in the Highline area. They are affiliated with 4-H and accept members from any school\, including homeschoolers. The teams share a workspace graciously provided by Highline Public Schools.\n\nSkunk Works and Tekerz have been in the Highline area for 17 and 13 years respectively and have won numerous awards as part of FIRST robotics. Both are looking for new members who want an opportunity to develop and utilize skills in CAD\, programming\, graphic design\, statistical analysis\, marketing\, wiring and parts fabrication. The teams function as businesses and learn marketable skills and teamwork under the supervision of mentors.\n\nStudents are welcome to visit with either team or both. The Tekerz plan to compete in FTC and FRC. The Skunks focus solely on the FRC division. FTC competes on a 12’x12′ field and builds robots that must fit into a 18″ cube. FTC is for students from 7th to 12th grade. FRC competes on a 54’x27′ field and builds robots that weigh less than 125lbs. The size requirements vary each year.
