SUMMARY:BAT Theatre’s intense 'Red' opens Friday night\, April 12
DESCRIPTION:Burien Actors Theatre (BAT) presents Red\, written by John Logan\, from Friday\, April 12 through Sunday\, May 5 (except no performance April 28). This Tony Award-winning play is an intense two-actor knockout that takes us into the mind of abstract expressionist Mark Rothko\, for whom paintings are “pulsating” life forces.  \nRaw and provocative\, but peppered with humor\, Red chronicles the painter’s two-year labor to complete a lucrative set of murals for Manhattan’s exclusive Four Seasons restaurant. When Rothko’s young assistant\, Ken\, gains the confidence to challenge him\, Rothko faces the agonizing possibility his crowning achievement could also become his undoing. The show contains some strong language and mature themes. BAT’s policy is to inform audiences of content\, but to allow individuals to make decision they feel are appropriate for themselves or the youth and teens in their care. \nPerformances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m.\, and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. (except no performance Sunday\, April 28) in the Theater at Kennedy Catholic High School\, 140 S. 140th St.\, Burien\, WA 98168 (map below). The show runs approximately 95 minutes with no intermission. There is plenty of free on-site parking. Masks are required at all performances\, and will be provided by BAT if you don’t have one. \n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\nTicket prices range from $7 to $25. \nStudent tickets are $5. \nEnjoy opening weekend deals: \n\nOnly on Saturday\, April 13\, all tickets are $13.\nOnly on Sunday\, April 14\, which is BAT’s Seven Buck Sunday\, admission is just $7.\n\nIf ticket pricing is a barrier\, reach out to BAT at Tickets@BATtheatre.org – theater is for everyone! \nFor tickets and details\, go to www.BATtheatre.org or call 206-242-5180 (message only). \nRed is sponsored by 4Culture through the King County Lodging Tax and the City of Burien. \n\n\n\n\n\n$3 Off Coupon\nSave $3 by using the code “BLOG” when ordering online here. \n\n\n\nThe Cast\, Director and Designers \n\n\n\nStage director Beau Prichard directs the talented cast of Scott C. SUMMARY:‘Experiencing heaven now’ free talk will be at First Church\, Christ Scientist on Sunday\, April 14
DESCRIPTION:The Kingdom of Heaven is Within Us? \nYes\, we can feel the peace and safety of God’s presence anytime\, anywhere. \nWHAT: “Experiencing heaven now\,” a free talk by practitioner of Christian Science healing and international speaker\, Mary Bothwell. The talk focuses on universal healing precepts found in the Holy Bible\, especially in Christ Jesus’ life and teachings\, and shows how they are available for anyone to understand and experience through the lens of Christian Science. The talk is free\, open to the community\, and hosted by First Church of Christ\, Scientist\, Burien\, Washington. \nWHY: “In spite of the hyper-connectedness of social media and technology\, we live in an era in which many are feeling this same disconnect\,” says Mrs. Bothwell. “We all yearn to find meaningful relationships\, or a more lasting connection with peace\, contentment\, even health. In my lecture\, I’ll discuss how anyone can become genuinely aware of God’s presence and experience heaven–harmony\, health\, and happiness–here and now.” \nSharing examples of healing from her own life and professional practice of Christian Science\, Mrs. Bothwell will explain why Christian Science is both Christian and scientific\, and how anyone can prove its effectiveness for themselves\, as fully described in the book Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures\, written by the founder of the Christian Science movement\, Mary Baker Eddy. \nMrs. Bothwell will also touch on the life of Mary Baker Eddy\, and how Mrs. Eddy came to understand\, confirm\, and teach what she felt was original Christian healing. Mrs. Eddy herself said she was especially inspired by Jesus’ demand\, “He that believes on me\, the works that I do will he do also; and greater works than these will he do\, because I go unto my Father” (found in the Gospel of John 14:12 in the Bible). \nLearn more here: \nhttps://christianscienceburien.org\n\n\n\n\nWHEN: Sunday\, April 14\, 2024: 2 p.m.\nWHERE: 233 S. 156th Street\, Burien\, WA  98148 (map below).\nWHO: Mary Bothwell has been a practitioner of Christian Science healing for many years\, helping people on a daily basis through this scientific approach to prayer.  She travels from her home base in California\, USA\, to speak to audiences as a member of the Christian Science Board of Lectureship.

SUMMARY:WABI Weekday Walkers return to SeaTac Botanical Garden on Wednesday\, April 17
DESCRIPTION:From our friends at WABI Burien: \n\n\n\n\nLet’s return to Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden this Wednesday\, April 17\, 2024\, where the flowers are emerging and offering an ever-changing selection of natural beauty. \n\n\n\nThe garden had its origins in a private garden belonging to Elda Behm\, a local gardening enthusiast. She called her garden Paradise Garden. When Elda’s garden was threatened by development of the third runway at the airport\, a great community effort relocated the garden to its current location. Today there’s much to admire and explore\, including the delightful Japanese Garden and the adjacent natural area. You can read more about the garden on the website. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe’ll start by the entrance to the flower garden\, winding through the flowerbeds and Japanese garden\, and then take a turn through the wooded trails in the natural part of the park. Trails could be muddy if it’s been raining and there are some ups and downs\, though nothing too drastic. We’ll finish up back at the garden where you can take your time seeking out the blossoms of your choice. \n\n\n\nDate: Wednesday\, April 17\, 2024 (Rain or shine).Time: Meet a little before 9 a.m. so we can begin walking at 9 a.m.Place: Park at Highline SeaTac Botanical Garden\, adjacent to the SeaTac Community Center\, 13735 24th Avenue S.\, SeaTac\, WA (map below).Who: Walkers of every level and ability (dogs are welcome\, too.).Distance: Approx. 2 miles\, round trip.Time: About 60 minutes. \n\n\n\nQuestions?\n\n\n\nFor questions\, comments and suggestions\, please contact: \n\n\n\n\nAudrey Lipps at weekdaywalkers@wabiburien.org or\n\n\n\nMaureen Hoffmann at info@wabiburien.org

SUMMARY:BAT Theatre’s intense 'Red' continues Friday night\, April 19
\nThe show contains some strong language and mature themes. \nThe show runs approximately 95 minutes with no intermission. \nThere is plenty of free on-site parking. \nMasks are required at all performances\, and will be provided by BAT if you don’t have one. \n\n\n\nTickets\n\n\n\nTicket prices range from $7 to $25. SUMMARY:BAT Theatre’s intense 'Red' continues Sunday\, April 21
\n\nRaw and provocative\, but peppered with humor\, Red chronicles the painter’s two-year labor to complete a lucrative set of murals for Manhattan’s exclusive Four Seasons restaurant. When Rothko’s young assistant\, Ken\, gains the confidence to challenge him\, Rothko faces the agonizing possibility his crowning achievement could also become his undoing. The show contains some strong language and mature themes. BAT’s policy is to inform audiences of content\, but to allow individuals to make decision they feel are appropriate for themselves or the youth and teens in their care.\n\nPerformances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m.\, and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. (except no performance Sunday\, April 28) in the Theater at Kennedy Catholic High School\, 140 S. 140th St.\, Burien\, WA 98168 (map below). SUMMARY:7 Stories returning to Highline Heritage Museum Friday night\, April 26
DESCRIPTION:7 Stories will be returning to the Highline Heritage Museum in Burien on Friday night\, April 26\, 2024\, on the themes “Duped” and/or “AHA!“ \nThis free event will start at 7 p.m. \nThis regular storytelling series is a night of honest\, true stories told by your friends\, neighbors\, and others…some are even Moth Story Winners. \nDoors will open at 6:35 p.m.\, so come in early\, take a seat\, visit your neighbor\, and enjoy the stories in the beautiful museum. \n\n\n\nThis event is FREE (donations gratefully accepted). \nNOTE: If you can’t make it to this event in person\, be sure to “Like” us on Facebook here to get a notification\, as The B-Town Blog will be streaming it live starting at 7 p.m. \n“Do you have a story to share? It will be a joy to hear it; come and join us!” \nStorytellers Needed\nPlease consider sharing your true story…in the spirit of community and friendship. \nOrganizers will coach/help you as much as you would like. \n7 Stories is a storytelling night\, so craft your true experience into your own story. It’s not a literary event. You’re sharing your true story with us. And…we’ll love it! \nAs Paul from Fresh Ground Stories (a mentor storytelling group) advises: \n “Remember to practice your story out loud on as many people as possible and time yourself when you’re doing it. Please don’t get onstage if you haven’t practiced your story. The audience is giving you their time and attention. It’s not fair to them if you get up there and try to wing it.” \nFor more info\, or to sign up\, fill out this form online or email 7stories@burienculturehub.org. \nVideo\nBelow is an edited video produced by Scott Schaefer showing the 7 Stories event held on Mar. 22\, 2024 on the theme “Paths Not Taken/Diary Entries”:

SUMMARY:See ‘What An Impossible Idea’ live at Burien’s Serenza Salon & Spa on Friday night\, April 26
DESCRIPTION:In what sounds like an impossible idea\, “What An Impossible Idea” – a new play by Tommer Peterson – will be performed live at Serenza Salon & Spa in Burien on Friday night\, April 26\, 2024. \nThis play will be conducted as a reading\, starting at 7:30 p.m. at Serenza in Burien (map below). \nThe play will be performed by actors Christian Bolduc\, Eloisa Cardona\, Johnny Patchamatla\, and E. Mandisa Subira\, who will bring Peterson’s words to life under the direction of the playwright himself. \nWritten by Peterson\, this isn’t your typical love story. This one tackles the whole spectrum – romantic partners\, sure\, but also family\, friends\, colleagues\, and even those weird\, hard-to-define connections we haven’t even named yet. Think of it as a theatrical tumble through the dryer of human interaction\, with some stories finding closure and others just getting tangled up or covered in lint even more. \nThis free event (RSVP requested\, link below) is supported by the City of Seattle Office of Arts & Culture\, and is perfect for anyone who’s ever wondered: how do we even find each other in this crazy world? Maybe “What An Impossible Idea” has some answers\, or at least a good laugh exploring the question. \nThis show runs approximately 80-minutes with no intermission\, so you can be back home before your bed sheets are dried. \nAccessibility: Accessible entry and restrooms at this venue. \nMore info here. \nRSVP FREE TO THIS PERFORMANCE HERE

DESCRIPTION:The Des Moines Waterland Walkers April Walk will be this Saturday\, April 27\, 2024 – International Sculpture Day!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDate & Time: Saturday\, April 27\, 2024. 11:30 a.m. \nPlace: Des Moines Library\, 21620 11th Ave S. in Des Moines The library is open on Saturdays\, but there should be plenty of parking in that lot or the City Hall lot next door. There’s also street parking on 11th near the library. \nRoute: There are a number of sculptures scattered throughout Des Moines and we will explore some of them. We’ll start by looking at the sculptures at the library and at City Hall and then walk down 216th Street to Marine View Drive and Big Catch Plaza. From there\, we’ll head down to the marina and check out the sculptures along the way. \n\n\n\nWe’ll head back on 7th and will end up at 1:00 at the George C Scott Studio at 22220 7th Ave S. The studio will be open and will feature small sculpture displays\, craft projects\, and hands-on glass-making projects. Fred Andrews with the Des Moines Arts Commission will be available at the studio to answer any questions we may have. \n\n\n\nAfter we visit the studio\, we’ll walk back to 216th and up the hill to return to the library. \n\n\n\nWalkers who would prefer to avoid the hill on the way back can park in Big Catch Plaza (the plaza with the Dollar Tree store) at the corner of 216th and Marine View Drive and meet the walking group in the parking lot near the Big Catch sculpture around 11:50. \n\n\n\nThis walk is mostly flat on paved surfaces except for a hill at the end. There’s plenty of room to spread out so everyone can walk at their own pace. Four-legged friends are welcome to join us as well. \n\n\n\nIf you have any questions or need help finding us the day of the walk\, please text or call Anna Martin at (206) 501-5726.
