SUMMARY:Frida Kahlo Fiesta & Art Market will be Saturday\, July 6 at Highline Heritage Museum
DESCRIPTION:A Friday Kahlo Fiesta & Art Market will be held at the Highline Heritage Museum on Saturday\, July 6\, 2024\, from Noon – 6 p.m. \n\n\n\nThis event will commemorate Kahlo’s 117th birthday celebration\, with art\, live music/performances\, a presentation and more. \n\n\n\nIf you don’t know Frida\, here’s a short bio from fridakahlo.org: \n\n\n\n\n“Considered one of Mexico’s greatest artists\, Frida Kahlo was born on July 6\, 1907 in Coyocoan\, Mexico City\, Mexico. She grew up in the family’s home where was later referred to as the Blue House or Casa Azul. Her father is a German descendant and photographer. He immigrated to Mexico where he met and married her mother Matilde. Her mother is half Amerindian and half Spanish. Frida Kahlo has two older sisters and one younger sister.  \n\n\n\n“Frida Kahlo has poor health in her childhood. She contracted polio at the age of 6 and had to be bedridden for nine months. This disease caused her right leg and foot to grow much thinner than her left one. She limped after she recovered from polio. She has been wearing long skirts to cover that for the rest of her life. Her father encouraged her to do lots of sports to help her recover. She played soccer\, went swimming\, and even did wrestle\, which is very unusual at that time for a girl. She has kept a very close relationship with her father for her whole life.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMore info here: \n\n\n\nhttps://highlinemuseum.org/event/frida-kahlo-fiesta-art-market/

SUMMARY:Walk-n-Talk along the Historic Indian Trail on Sunday\, July 7
DESCRIPTION:From our friends at WABI Burien:\n\n\n\n\n\nOne of Burien’s outdoor gems is the “Indian Trail.”\n\n\n\n\nIf you haven’t discovered the Trail yet\, this is your chance! This wandering\, varied Trail winds high above the shoreline strip of SW 172nd St. – the “Sunrise Trail” –  and then\, from Three Tree Point northward\, parallels Maplewild Ave. SW – the “Sunset Trail”. It is said to be a remnant of a Trail used long ago by the local Native American tribes in the region as they traveled from the south end of Puget Sound – the Salish Sea – to the north\, thus its name of the “Indian Trail”. Some portions of the Trail are heavily-wooded and lush green (shaded!). Other areas are wide open to the sky (hot and sunny). There are three public beach access points along the way.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n”WABI would like to acknowledge that we will be on the traditional land of the first people of Seattle\, the Duwamish People past and present\, and honor\, with gratitude\, the land itself and the Duwamish Tribe.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n Date: Sunday\, July 7\, 2024. The weather forecast calls for a 90 degree day\, so BRING A BOTTLE OF WATER!\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n Time: 2:00 meet-up. Walking starts at 2:15 p.m.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n Place: Meet at the corner of SW 167th Place and 31st Ave. SW (NOT at Burien Town Square; map below).\nThis is in the Gregory Heights neighborhood above Three Tree Point.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n Route & Distance: Our Walk-n-Talk starts cliff-high in Gregory Heights\, winds down the Trail to Three Tree Point. At one point along the way\, there is a 180 degree view of Normandy Park\, Des Moines\, Redondo\, Mt. Rainier\, Tacoma\, the islands of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. We then trundle back up another portion of the Trail to Maplewild\, at the 16000 block. Upon reaching Maplewild\, we turn around\, retrace our steps and go back UP\, UP\, UP the hill to our starting point! The total is about 3 miles\, round trip. The elevation change is about 300 feet.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n Parking: There is parking on the street in the Gregory Heights neighborhood\, near the starting point. (Public parking along Maplewild is difficult to find.) As always\, please be respectful of private property when parking your car.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n NOTE – Trail Terrain: This is a beautiful walk\, paved wide in places\, a narrow dirt path in others. Please be advised that this trip has quite an elevation change going down the hill and then back up. The path is also quite rugged and irregular in places. Because of these factors\, it’s a poor choice for those with health and mobility limitations\, and the trail will not accommodate strollers for children.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis is a FREE event and open to all (that can handle the terrain of the trail)\, including friendly four-legged friends.\n\n\n\n\n\nClick on the photos below to enlarge images from past Walk-n-Talks along the Indian Trail.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMt. Rainier\, as see from the “Sunrise” portion of the Indian Trail.\n\n\n\n\nAs with all of our walks\, walkers may choose to do all or just part of the route. And walkers may always walk at whatever pace is most comfortable for them.\n\n\n\n\n\nIf you do not want to walk back up the hill to the starting point\, but would rather finish at the Maplewild end\, we suggest that you carpool with a friend\, leave the first car somewhere along Maplewild (or within walking distance)\, and then drive the second car to the starting point. At the end of the walk\, you can hop into the first car and go back and get the second car.\n\n\n\n\n\nFor further information\, please contact Maureen Hoffmann at info@wabiburien.org.

SUMMARY:7 Stories returning to Highline Heritage Museum on Friday\, July 26
DESCRIPTION:7 Stories is returning to the Highline Heritage Museum on Friday\, July 26\, 2024 with the themes: “Brush with the Law” and/or “What the hell am I doing?“ \nThis FREE (donations gratefully accepted) storytelling event will start at 7 p.m. \nThis monthly event is a night of honest\, true stories told by your friends and neighbors. \nDoors open at 6:30 p.m. so come early\, take a seat\, visit your neighbor and enjoy the stories in the museum. Before or after the event\, enjoy a summer night in beautiful Burien at the numerous restaurants and bars. \nEvent Will Be Live-Streamed\nIf you can’t make it to this event in person\, be sure to “Like” us on Facebook here to get a notification\, as The B-Town Blog will be streaming it live starting at 7 p.m. \nVideo\nBelow is an edited version of the June 28\, 2024 7 Stories\, as shot by Larry Dominico: \n \nStorytellers Needed\nPlease consider sharing your true story…in the spirit of community and friendship. \nOrganizers will coach/help you as much as you would like. \n7 Stories is a storytelling night\, so craft your true experience into your own story. It’s not a literary event. You’re sharing your true story with us. And…we’ll love it! \nAs Paul from Fresh Ground Stories (a mentor storytelling group) advises: \n “Remember to practice your story out loud on as many people as possible and time yourself when you’re doing it. Please don’t get onstage if you haven’t practiced your story. The audience is giving you their time and attention. It’s not fair to them if you get up there and try to wing it.” \nMore Info/Sign Up\nFor more info\, or to sign up\, visit the Meetup page here\, fill out this form online or email 7stories@burienculturehub.org. \n\n\n\nHAT: 7 Stories \nWHEN: Friday\, July 26\, 2024\, 7 p.m.\nWHERE: Highline Heritage Museum\, 819 SW 152nd Street\, Burien\, WA 98166/
