SUMMARY:Celebrate the 10th anniversary of ‘The Maury Island Incident’ at the Museum of Flight on Saturday\, Oct. 5
DESCRIPTION:All are invited to enjoy a presentation and screening of “The Maury Island Incident” film at the Museum of Flight on Saturday\, Oct. 5\, 2024\, starting at 2 p.m. \nThe award-winning\, locally produced and shot 30-minute film – celebrating its 10th anniversary – will be screened at the William M. Allen Theater at the museum in Tukwila (map below). There will also be a presentation before and a Q&A with filmmakers afterwards. \nThis film is based on the incredible and often forgotten story of Harold Dahl\, who on June 21\, 1947\, alleged a UFO sighting over Puget Sound that led to what filmmakers say was the first UFO-related “Men in Black” encounter\, as well as the first fatalities in the history of the then-new U.S. Air Force. \nHistory meets pop culture and J. Edgar Hoover in a sensational 1947 Northwest tale that challenges the historical foundations of UFO mythology and the origin story of the “Men in Black\,” and was honored with a resolution by the Washington State Senate in 2017. It took place during the start of the “Summer of the Saucers” phenomenon\, which launched the modern UFO era\, and Washington State was ground zero for alleged sightings. \nDiscover how two local filmmakers learned about the infamous “Maury Island Incident\,” then chose to reject the usual tropes\, speculations and sensationalism surrounding UFO stories and instead tackled the project as “incidental historians.” You’ll learn – as they did – from FBI records about how a Tacoma-based FBI Special Agent charged to investigate a mysterious B-25 Bomber crash east of Kelso\, Washington\, reported the Maury Island Incident facts directly to J. Edgar Hoover and re-framed the entire historical narrative\, providing the inspiration for award-winning 30-minute film “The Maury Island Incident” (that will screen as part of the program). \nScott Schaefer\, the film’s director\, said: \n“We wanted to capture the dramatic tension that just leapt off the pages of the declassified FBI interview records from 1947. People will argue forever about what happened that day. But it doesn’t matter. Lives were lost and lives were destroyed. Pop culture was changed forever. And when the team – including our wonderful Executive Producer John White – realized the common narrative about Maury Island being a hoax was wrong and the truth sealed for 50 years – we had to make the film.” \n“This film has been a wonderful\, decade-long journey that just doesn’t end\,” said Steve Edmiston\, Screenwriter and Co-Producer. “We had no idea how people might react to us taking a controversial subject like a UFO sighting and approaching it as a historical event. This is why we relied so heavily on the FBI investigations and J. Edgar Hoover’s role. And it seemed to work.” \nVideo\nBelow is a trailer for the film: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Details\n\nWHEN: Saturday\, Oct. 5\, 2024\, from 2 – 4 p.m.\nCOST: FREE with Membership and included with general admission.\n\nPresented as part of the Museum’s new Home Beyond Earth exhibition. \nThe Museum of Flight is located at 9404 E. Marginal Way South\, Seattle\, WA 98108-4097.

SUMMARY:7 Stories returning to Highline Heritage Museum on themes of ‘Acceptance’ or ‘Close Encounters’ on Friday night\, Oct. 25
DESCRIPTION:Get Ready! 7 Stories is returning to the Highline Heritage Museum at 7 p.m. on Friday Oct. 25\, 2024\, and organizers are looking forward to your stories on the themes of “Acceptance” and/or “Close Encounters.” \n“We are…thinking of Halloween…” \nA story “Close Encounters” example: \n“My sister saw something REALLY strange and totally unexplainable on the Alcan Highway long ago. Newlyweds\, she and her husband were driving an old ‘recycled’ ambulance they’d bought to Alaska. What they saw they couldn’t even talk about with each other until after they’d passed ‘it.‘” \nFor “Acceptance” someone might share something like this: \n“I’d been collecting hurts and grudges\, slights that made me feel unseen or unimportant. It was driving me crazy\, and although I knew I had to stop since not everything is about me\, I didn’t know how. Then I looked around the room and it hit me that I was seeing a group of people who were doing their best with whatever flaws\, pain\, and baggage they were carrying around. I looked at each one and said quietly\, “I love you. I understand you. I accept you\,” and in doing so\, I felt a great burden lifting\, and I found acceptance of myself.”  \nStorytellers Needed\nOrganizers (and your neighbors) want to hear your stories\, so don’t be shy – start recording yourself and/or practicing with a friend so you’ll be ready to tell your story on Friday\, Oct. 25. You’ll never find a more appreciative\, welcoming audience. \nFor more information\, or to sign-up\, visit: \nwww.burienculturehub.org/7stories\nOr you can just come and enjoy seven wonderful stories from your neighbors. \nAlso\, please join the 7 Stories group: https://www.meetup.com/7-stories/ \n7 Stories started as a simple way to connect\, to listen to our neighbors and friends share their simple story – just like when you stop to chat at your mailbox\, driveway\, in a grocery store\, or over a cup of coffee or beer. Stories unite us and draw us closer. \nAdmission is free for audience members but donations are always welcome.  \nEvent Will Be Live-Streamed\nEach ‘7 Stories’ event will also be live-streamed on The B-Town Blog’s Facebook page.
