SUMMARY:'Free Tree Point' Giveaway Days expanded through Sunday at Burien's Three Tree Point neighborhood
DESCRIPTION:UPDATE: The beloved Giveaway Days event this weekend at FREE…er\, we mean THREE Tree Point has been expanded through Sunday\, July 13\, 2025\, with an extra day added to the festivities. \n\n\n\nNow in its third year\, the community event echoes the success of previous giveaway days\, where hundreds turned out at Three Tree Point to leave or take everything from furniture and kitchenware to toys and tools and more. \n\n\n\n“Place items you don’t want along the road in front of your home and folks will take what they want\,” organizers said\, “you still have to get rid of what’s left-over but that will be a much smaller pile.” \n\n\n\nOrganizers also emphasized the eco‑friendly\, re-use benefits of the event. \n\n\n\nEvent Details:\n\n\n\n\nThis Friday\, July 11\, and Saturday\, July 12\, 2025\, from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.\, residents of Three Tree Point who live on SW 172nd Street\, SW 171st Street\, Three Tree Point Lane\, Maplewild Ave SW and other 3TP streets are encouraged to set out things they don’t need anymore outside their homes/driveways.\n\n\n\nOrganizers strongly suggest adding a large “FREE STUFF” sign to indicate that stuff is free and up for grabs.\n\n\n\nOnce stuff is out and labeled\, it’s up for grabs in a kind of free neighborhood giveaway event – just drive/stroll through the area and take what you like (takers must haul what they take).\n\n\n\nThere will be no “holds” allowed on items – everything is up to you to haul and you cannot knock on doors or bother homeowners. It’s first come\, first served!\n\n\n\nThere is no main organizer to this event\, and we strongly encourage participants to treat it as another experiment to see if it works.\n\n\n\nRemember – put out some good stuff you don’t need\, not junk or garbage\, and let’s turn this neighborhood into FREE Tree Point!\n\n\n\n\nGiveaway Days runs all day both days. \n\n\n\nAll are welcome; there are no fees or registrations. \n\n\n\nFor more info or to volunteer\, please email pckeeney@gmail.com.

SUMMARY:Waterland Parade to celebrate community\, racing legend
DESCRIPTION:The annual Waterland Parade will roll through downtown Des Moines this Saturday\, July 19\, 2025\, bringing a celebration of community spirit\, cherished traditions\, and tributes to the heart of the Waterland City. \nThis year’s parade will honor the legacies of two beloved figures: \n\nLongtime Des Moines resident and hydroplane racing champion Steve Huff.\nCommunity icon Bj Bjorneby\, whose family has been a cornerstone of local business for generations.\n\nThe parade\, part of the broader Waterland Festival weekend\, will begin at 6 p.m. Saturday along Marine View Drive and is expected to draw crowds from across the region. Dozens of floats\, marching bands\, community groups\, and classic vehicles will take part in the colorful procession. \nHuff\, who passed away on May 21 after a battle with Stage 4 cancer\, will be remembered by friends and teammates marching behind a banner in his name. Their entry will be filled with “noise and enthusiasm\,” led by Jill Andrews of The Flood Guys\, and echo the familiar “Huff!” chant that has become a parade staple. Huff was the 2023 Waterland Parade Grand Marshal following his national championship win in hydroplane racing in 2022. \nAlso honored in this year’s festivities is the late Bj Bjorneby\, co-founder of Bjorneby’s Car Care Center. Special vintage vehicles once owned by Bjorneby will return to the parade\, and a family-led tribute aims to recognize his deep roots in Des Moines and his long-standing community service. \nThe Waterland Parade is organized by Destination Des Moines and supported by local sponsors and volunteers. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early to find good viewing spots along the route and enjoy family-friendly festivities throughout the day. \nFor more information about Waterland Weekend events\, visit destinationdesmoines.org.
