SUMMARY:Raise a glass to the Northwest’s ‘Good Bootlegger\,’ as Roy Olmstead’s birthday party comes to Des Moines
DESCRIPTION:Whiskey. Wiretaps. The Northwest’s most notorious rumrunner. Join Stick Lounge for a night where the drinks flow\, the stories spill\, and the truth…well\, most of it’s true. \nStick Lounge presents Roy Olmstead’s Birthday: An Evening of Whiskey Tasting and Storytelling (Most of it True) starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday\, Sept. 20\, 2025. \nThe celebration features tastings from Seattle’s own 2Bar Whiskey and live storytelling by Steve Edmiston\, co-creator of The Good Bootlegger’s Guild and a Humanities Washington speaker who’s been called “part historian\, part raconteur\, part conspirator.” \nOlmstead\, once a Seattle cop turned rumrunning king\, built an empire during Prohibition with charm\, cunning\, and a moral code that earned him the nickname “The Good Bootlegger.” His fame is owed in large part to his refusal to let his men carry guns\, insisting that “no amount of whiskey is worth a human life.” He made millions smuggling liquor into the Northwest\, avoided violence\, and—legend has it—earned the respect of both the press and the public. \n“Olmstead’s story is bigger than crime\,” Edmiston said. “It’s about the blurry lines between law and justice\, myth and truth\, whiskey and water. There is love\, betrayals\, spycraft\, and a legendary trip to the Supreme Court. He’s the Northwest’s Gatsby with bourbon chaser.” \n\n\n\nA Hometown Story with Des Moines Roots\n\n\n\nOlmstead’s Northwest notoriety is deeply tied to Des Moines. On Thanksgiving Day\, 1925\, federal agents surprised Olmstead on the Woodmont Beach dock\, seizing his final delivery\, and bringing his empire crashing down. \nThe Good Bootlegger’s Guild has celebrate Olmstead’s birthday annually\, and privately\, at Woodmont Beach. This is the Guild’s first public event.   \nSo dust off your fedora\, step into the speakeasy spirit\, and toast the bootlegger who kept the Northwest wet when the rest of America went dry—right here in Des Moines. \n\n\n\nEvent Details\n\nWHAT: Roy Olmstead’s Birthday: An Evening of Whiskey Tasting and Storytelling (Most of it True)\nWHEN: Saturday\, Sept. 20\, 2025\, 6 p.m.\nWHERE: Stick Lounge\, 22341 Marine View Dr S\, Suite C\, Des Moines\, WA (map below)\nSPECIAL GUESTS/TASTINGS: 2Bar Whiskey\nSPEAKER: Steve Edmiston\, The Good Bootlegger’s Guild\nTICKETS: $30.00\, includes whiskey tasting hosted by 2Bar Whiskey – scan the QR code below for details:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Stick Lounge\n\n\n\nStick Lounge is a community gathering space in downtown Des Moines\, WA\, just steps from the marina. Named for the founder’s family ranch in Texas\, 2Bar crafts award-winning whiskey from 100% local grains and is proud of its all-female production team\, blending tradition\, independence\, and Northwest character in every bottle. \n\n\n\nAbout Steve Edmiston\n\n\n\nSteve Edmiston is a business and entertainment lawyer\, and indie film screenwriter and producer. DESCRIPTION:Local residents will have the chance to hear\, and share\, personal stories during the next 7 Stories event\, which returns to the Highline Heritage Museum this Friday night\, Sept. 26\, 2025 with the theme “Way Too Close.” \nThis free event will be held at the museum from 7 – 8:30 p.m. \nOrganizers say the monthly storytelling night aims to build community\, encourage empathy and celebrate diversity by featuring true tales told directly by community members. \nEach storyteller is introduced by a host\, who shares a short biography of each before they take the stage. \n“These are not theatrical performances\,” organizers noted. “They are real stories told from the heart — funny\, powerful\, and sometimes a little uncomfortable — by your friends\, neighbors\, and people you may be meeting for the first time.” \nWatch it LIVE on Facebook\nNOTE: If you can’t make it to this event in person\, be sure to “Like” us on Facebook here to get a notification\, as The B-Town Blog hopes to be streaming it live starting at 7 p.m. \nStorytellers Needed</2>\nPlease consider sharing your true story…In the spirit of community and friendship. \nOrganizers will coach/help you as much as you would like. \nTo sign up\, please fill out the form online or send an email to 7stories@burienculturehub.org. \nEvent staff offer coaching and can help coordinate bilingual two-person storytelling. \nParents are advised to use discretion\, as not all stories may be appropriate for young listeners. \n7 Stories is part of a community effort to promote connection through personal narratives\, and organizers say they are always looking for new storytellers willing to share their experiences. \nFor more info\, visit https://burienculturehub.org/7stories

SUMMARY:After serving breakfast for 65 years\, SeaTac’s Pancake Chef will flip its last flapjack Sept. 28
DESCRIPTION:After serving generations of south King County residents since 1959\, the historic Pancake Chef will close its doors for the final time on Sunday\, Sept. 28\, according to longtime resident and former SeaTac City councilmember Fuzz Hill. \nThe family-owned diner has been a local landmark and gathering place in SeaTac for more than six decades\, known for its comfort food\, community atmosphere and regular customers. \nAfter more than four decades at the helm\, owner Loren Sisley is retiring and closing the restaurant. \nHill said the closure marks the end of an era for the city and its neighbors. \n“Sad to see another locally-owned family business being shuttered\, but happy for Loren for all his successful prior and many future restful years\,” Hill said. \nLast year\, KOMO News’ Eric’s Heroes profiled the iconic restaurant\, describing it as a “Northwestern gem” that has remained largely unchanged since opening in 1959. The segment highlighted the restaurant’s vintage charm\, its role as a family gathering place for decades of regulars\, and the dedication of staff who have worked there for more than 40 years: \n Be sure to get your last taste of great\, local flapjacks soon – the Pancake Chef is located at 15215 Military Rd S\, SeaTac\, WA 98188: \n\n
