SUMMARY:Burien guitarist John Hendow will rock with BowieVision on Friday\, Dec. 5
DESCRIPTION:Screenshot\nBurien’s own John Hendow will be rockin’ the Triple Door in Seattle as lead guitarist for David Bowie tribute band BowieVision on Friday night\, Dec. 5\, 2025. \nHendow and the acclaimed tribute band will perform two shows on Friday\, Dec. 5 at The Triple Door in downtown Seattle\, the band announced on Facebook. \nHendow serves as lead guitarist and backing vocalist for the band\, which specializes in interpreting and celebrating the music of the late\, iconic Bowie. According to BowieVision’s website\, the group “focuses instead on interpreting David Bowie’s eclectic and expansive musical catalog” and calls itself “a celebration” rather than mere tribute. \n“Combining world-class vocals\, deft musicianship\, Bowie-inspired costumes\, and masterful stage presence\, the BowieVision experience is simultaneously epic and intimate. The seven-piece musical juggernaut draws sell-out crowds to premiere venues in the Northwest and beyond by bringing passion and precision to songs from nearly every phase of Bowie’s eclectic career: rock anthems like Rebel Rebel\, All the Young Dudes\, and Suffragette City; the wide-screen balladry of Life on Mars?\, Space Oddity\, The Man Who Sold the World\, and Changes; mid-70s “plastic soul” (Golden Years\, Young Americans\, Fame) art-pop statements like Fashion\, Heroes\, Sound and Vision\, Ashes to Ashes\, and I’m Afraid of Americans; the high-sheen 80s classics Under Pressure\, Let’s Dance\, China Girl\, Modern Love\, and Blue Jean; and selections from Bowie’s masterpiece swan song “Blackstar”\, including Lazarus and I Can’t Give Everything Away.“ \n”David Bowie had a number of incredible guitarists\, and it’s a great challenge to transcribe and perform their parts accurately\,” Hendow told The B-Town Blog.\n\nHendow has also performed locally\, with a highlight being BowieVision’s amazing outdoor performance at the 2016 Burien UFO Festival. \nIn addition to being an awesome guitarist/musician and all-around great guy\, Burien’s Hendow is a technical and business leader with over 20 years’ experience in strategic technology leadership and organizational maturation. \nHe’s been a professional musician for over 40 years\, with 20 of those years performing and recording with reggae band Jumbalassy. In addition to BowieVision\, he is also a member of The Dudley Manlove Quartet\, country swing band The 1 Uppers and others. \nThe upcoming performance reflects Hendow’s local roots and will showcase he and his fellow band members’ talents. A 2022 profile by The B-Town Blog noted his involvement with BowieVision and his presence in Burien’s creative arts scene. \n\nThe Triple Door is a great room with wonderful booth seating and excellent acoustics in the historic Mann Building at 216 Union Street in downtown Seattle\, which originally opened in 1926 as a vaudeville house.\n\nTickets for the Dec. 5 event will go fast\, organizers say\, and there will be two all-ages performances – at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. \nBuy Tickets Here

SUMMARY:WABI Burien’s annual Holiday Walk in Des Moines will be Saturday\, Dec. 13
DESCRIPTION:From our friends at WABI Burien: \nOur annual holiday walk will be a little earlier on Saturday\, Dec. 13 than our normal walk day so participants can check out the Des Moines shops and decorations along the walk before the holidays. \nWe’ll meet a few minutes before 11 am. this Saturday\, Dec. 13 at Big Catch Plaza (where the Dollar Tree store is located; map below) near the Big Catch sculpture in the parking lot. The address of the Dollar Tree store is 21815 Marine View Drive (intersection of S. 216th Street\, 7th Ave S. and Marine View Drive). \nWe’ll do this walk no matter what the weather\, so if it’s raining and you want to come\, we will be there. We’ll head south on the west side of Marine View Drive\, taking time to check out stores as we go. After we pass the Red Robin\, we’ll head up the hill to the Zenith Holland nursery\, where hopefully Santa will be waiting and can probably be persuaded to be in a group photo with us. The nursery and the gift shop are beautiful at this time of year\, and they are very dog-friendly! After we leave the nursery\, we’ll take a leisurely stroll north on the east side of Marine View Drive back to the starting point. \nThis walk is approximately 2 miles round trip on mostly flat paved surfaces. There’s only one hill going up to the nursery and we’ll take it slowly. Walkers of every level\, strollers and pets are welcome. \nIf you have any questions or need help finding us on the day of the walk\, please text Anna Martin at (206) 501-5726.

SUMMARY:Chanukah celebration set for Sunday\, Dec. 14 at Highline Heritage Museum
DESCRIPTION:The Highline Heritage Museum will host a Chanukah celebration on Sunday\, Dec. 14\, beginning at 4:30 p.m.\, according to information provided by the museum. \nThe free community event will highlight the Jewish eight-day\, wintertime “festival of lights\,” celebrated with a nightly menorah lighting\, special prayers and fried foods. \nActivities will include a grand menorah lighting\, lively music\, and traditional holiday foods such as latkes and doughnuts. \nThe Hebrew word Chanukah means “dedication\,” and is thus named because it celebrates the rededication of the Holy Temple. Also spelled Hanukkah (or variations of that spelling)\, the Hebrew word is actually pronounced with a guttural\, “kh” sound – “kha-nu-kah\,” not “tcha-new-kah.” \nThe museum noted that the celebration is open to all\, and is intended to be fun for the whole family. \nThe event will take place at the Highline Heritage Museum\, 819 SW 152nd Street in Burien (map below). \nMore information is available at JewishBurien.com/chanukah.
