Become a community scientist at Environmental Science Center’s ‘BioBlitz’ on Saturday, June 28

All are invited to join Burien’s Environmental Science Center (ESC) at Seahurst Park on Saturday, June 28, 2025 for the second ‘BioBlitz’ event.

This is a great opportunity to help out by being a community scientist.

“Help us document which species of plants and animals are present at the park during one snap-shot in time,” organizers said. “This event will help us better understand what animals to expect in this habitat and track changes over time. Anyone can participate and become a community scientist!”

Take a walk anywhere in the park during regular open hours, take photos of the plants and animals you see, and upload them to the iNaturalist app  or website under the ESC Seahurst Bioblitz 2025 project.

Stop by the park on June 28 between Noon – 2 p.m. to get help from ESC staff identifying organisms, learn about the low tide creatures, and find resources to help you become a community scientist.

Organizers will be at the front of the park and on the beach during low tide; just look for the brown vests. SR3 will also have their Marine Mammal Stewards available to help you learn about these cool animals in the Salish Sea.

You do not have to know how to identify any organisms to participate! By uploading photos to iNaturalist, you allow other community members and scientists to identify organisms for you.

Can’t make it down to the park that day? Consider joining ESC’s online project to help identify organisms after the BioBlitz day!

“We need help searching for and identifying what’s in the park. By utilizing our community members to do science, you all can help inform and increase our understanding of this local habitat.”
