Burien and Normandy Park to host community recycling event

Residents of Burien, Normandy Park, and King County will have a chance to recycle hard-to-dispose-of items at a community recycling event on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Center in Burien.
The event will feature drop-off stations for electronics, TVs, tires, batteries, confidential document shredding, propane tanks, porcelain sinks and toilets, refrigerators, freezers, mattresses, and Styrofoam.
Processing fees apply to some items, and payment must be made in cash at the entrance.
“This event is open to Burien, Normandy Park, and King County residents,” the city announced in a statement. “Only residents in cars will be provided service. People walking into the event will be refused service.”
Accepted items include DVD players, printers, computers, and cell phones (with personal information removed).
Tires are limited to six per household at no charge, with fees for additional or oversized tires.
A $35 fee applies for refrigerators, freezers, and air conditioners, while mattresses and box springs cost $35 each.
Document shredding is limited to four file-size boxes.
Prohibited materials include bulky wood, cardboard, household goods, clothing, appliances (except refrigerators and freezers), and scrap metal.
City officials advised residents to check with local donation sites for clothing and household item drop-offs.
The event is funded by the Washington State Department of Ecology, the King County Solid Waste Division, the Hazardous Waste Management Program in King County, and E-Cycle Washington.
In addition to recycling, rain barrels, compost bins, and worm bins will be sold for $25 each, cash only, while supplies last.
