Burien City Council to swear in Patricia Hudson at special meeting Thursday, Aug. 6

August 6 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

The Burien City Council will hold a special meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 6, with an agenda that includes the oath of office for Patricia Hudson, an update on the city manager recruitment process and a budget study session, according to the city’s meeting agenda.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at Burien City Hall (map below), and can be viewed live on Comcast TV Channel 21, via Zoom here and via live-stream here.

Hudson is scheduled to take the oath of office for Council Position No. 2.

The council will receive an update on the city manager recruitment process after reaching consensus on July 26 to direct the interim city manager to begin the search. Council will retain decision-making authority throughout the process, including establishing the recruitment profile, interviewing finalists and selecting the city manager, while city staff will work to engage a consultant to support the search. The anticipated cost of the executive search firm is about $25,000, plus reimbursable expenses for candidate interview travel.

Council also will hold an informational levy discussion focused on future revenue options and the city’s long-term financial sustainability. According to the agenda, staff will review possible property tax levy lid lift structures, timing considerations and the role of community engagement in identifying priorities that could be supported by a future levy.
