The City of Burien will host its annual Día de los Muertos (“Day of the Dead”) celebration on Friday, Nov. 7, at the Burien Community Center.

The free community event runs from 6 to 9 p.m. and invites residents of all ages to honor and remember ancestors and families through traditional activities.

The event will feature altars and offerings, arts and crafts, traditional music and dance, food, storytelling and more, according to the city.

Burien’s annual Día de los Muertos celebration will bring families and neighbors together at the Burien Community Center with:

  • Altars & Offerings
  • Arts & Crafts
  • Traditional Music
  • Dance & Food
  • Stories & More!

Both English and Spanish programming will be offered.

This part of the city’s effort to provide inclusive cultural programming that highlights our diverse communities.

While rooted in Mexican traditions, the event will also feature ofrendas created by community members.

Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is observed across Latin America as a time to honor and remember departed loved ones with offerings of food, flowers and photos. Though customs vary by country, the celebration blends mourning with joy and highlights the enduring connection between families and their ancestors.
