This Sunday’s Burien Arts free online art class will focus on ‘Psychic Automatism’

Next up in Burien Arts’ online Zoom workshop series, you will learn Psychic Automatism- otherwise known as intuitive drawing, with our lovely teacher for the month of May – @aiste.rye.art! This free class is online this Sunday, May 7, 2023, starting at 3:00 p.m.

Inspired by Cathy A. Malchiodi’s Art Therapy Sourcebook, this course invites you to explore your visual vocabulary through spontaneous visual journaling.

You will learn intuitive drawing techniques used by notable artists in the surrealist movement that later influenced the field of art therapy.

This visual journaling practice, which can be done on a daily basis, favors spontaneous drawing that can easily fit into any schedule—taking anywhere from 5-30 minutes each day.

Students will have the opportunity to share their visual journals in class and provide feedback on stylistic interpretation (if consented).

Supply list:

• 1 sketchbook – any size desired for daily sketching (recommended: 8.5” x 11” Blick Studio Hardbound Sketchbook if you want sufficient space)
• Pen and pencil – Pastel Chalk (full-color set)
• 2-3 large sheets of drawing paper (18” x 24”) or full Strathmore Drawing Paper Pad (18” x 24”)
• Artist tape (1” – any color)
