Volunteers needed for native planting at Salmon Creek Ravine in Burien

Volunteers of all ages are invited to help plant native trees and shrubs at Burien’s Salmon Creek Ravine from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4, as part of an effort to restore the park’s urban forest.
Burien Forest Stewards and Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust will lead the planting, according to the Green Burien Partnership event listing.
The work follows volunteers’ efforts to remove nonnative plants that have crowded out native species. With fall here, organizers say it is time to bring native plants back into those spaces.
Participants will meet at the park entrance near the Salmon Creek Treatment Plant on Shorewood Drive SW (map below). The group will wait 10 minutes before walking to the planting site together.
The walk takes about 10 to 15 minutes and includes some steep inclines, a detail volunteers should consider when planning to attend.
Organizers ask participants to bring bottled water, wear clothing that covers their arms and legs, and choose shoes with covered toes that can get dirty. Volunteers should dress for the weather, including possible rain.
Parking is available at the park entrance, with additional street parking along Shorewood Drive SW.
Anyone younger than 18 who attends without a parent or guardian should bring a youth waiver signed by a parent or guardian. The form is available through the event page.
Organizers also ask volunteers to check their email on the day of the event for updates in case of high winds.
Registration is available through the event page. Questions can be directed to event contact Victoria Love at victoria.love@kingcd.org.
