Volunteers needed to help restore Salmon Creek Ravine Park on MLK Day Jan. 19

January 19 @ 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm

Green Burien will host a Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service volunteer restoration event on Monday, Jan. 19, supporting Salmon Creek Ravine Park as a healthy urban forest.

The event – which will run from 1:30 – 4 p.m. – will focus on removing common ivy to help native plants and wildlife thrive, according to Green Burien.

The volunteer effort is open to participants of all ages, and tools and gloves will be provided.

Green Burien said safety will be a priority and advised participants to check their email on the day of the event for updates in case of high winds.

Volunteers are asked to bring bottled water and wear clothing that protects arms and legs, closed toed shoes suitable for getting dirty and weather appropriate attire in case of rain.

Participants will meet at the Salmon Creek Ravine Park entrance near the Salmon Creek Treatment Plant on Shorewood Drive Southwest. Organizers will wait 10 minutes before walking into the site together. The walk to the work area is expected to take about 10 to 15 minutes and includes some steep inclines.

Parking will be available at the park entrance, with additional street parking along Shorewood Drive SW.
