In order to protect the health and safety of grocery and retail workers, the Burien City Council announced that it has temporarily suspended the plastic bag ban, as well as paper bag fees.

The city says that the ban on single-use carryout plastic bags will go back into effect once the Burien City Manager’s COVID-19 coronavirus emergency proclamation expires.

“Workers from local grocers contacted the City of Burien expressing their concern about having to handle reusable bags brought from home during the COVID-19 public health crisis,” the city said. “The temporary suspension helps grocery workers reduce handling of the reusable bags.”
