Your Daily Dose of Natural Beauty: EXTRAORDINARY find in nursery displays power of resilience. 1

While moving lavender plants at Zenith Holland Nursery, owner Lyn received an incredible surprise. Nestled in the pots protected by the leaves of the plant was, well…a bird’s nest! The speckled egg sits neatly in the well of the nest, patiently biding time until the hatchling emerges. What sort of bird or nest is unknown to us, but surely there are ornithologists out there who could identify them easily. For us, it is left to the imagination. What we do know for sure is that nothing was going to stop this mama bird (or mom AND dad) from building a safe home to nurture their future offspring.

During these challenging times, looking to nature for hope and inspiration can help reduce anxiety and lift the spirits. The example set by this resilient little bird is ages old, pointing out that obstacles can be overcome when we practice optimism, creativity and perseverance. Nest building in unexpected places is an excellent reminder of an undaunted will to survive, even in difficult circumstances. Crafty avifauna have been known to build nests in shoes left outside, traffic cones and lights, statuary of all sorts (including that in the shape of other birds) and all sorts of unlikely spots. In doing a little research, we discovered that finding them in planters in garden centers, is not particularly unusual, nor to find them in or on parked cars or the occasional backyard barbecue.
