The Highline Heritage Museum will host a new art exhibition titled Stable Habits by Seattle-based photographer John Woodruff, running from July through September 2025.
The show opens with a public reception on Friday, July 11 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the museum, located at 819 SW 152nd Street in Burien (map below).
The exhibit features a collection of Woodruff’s smaller, monochromatic photographic works, presented as concise visual statements in contrast to his larger, more narrative-driven pieces. The show builds upon ideas introduced in his recent series and highlights the artist’s disciplined studio practice.
“John finds artistic clarity in the habit of repetition and adherence to the inherent rules governing each piece,” organizers said.
Known for working in-camera with traditional photographic techniques, Woodruff presents images in sequential order to emphasize visual flow. The resulting compositions offer an intricate yet accessible experience that challenges conventional modes of photographic display.
A Seattle native, Woodruff studied Photographic Arts and Art History in Salzburg, Austria, and earned a BFA in Fine Art Photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Since beginning his photography career in New York in 1991, he has also worked in Chicago and San Francisco before returning to Seattle, where he currently lives with his family.
The Stable Habits exhibit is part of the Burien Arts programming series. For more information, visit highlinemuseum.org or contact Essa Baird at essabaird@gmail.com.
