EDITOR’S NOTE: BTB Founder/Publisher Scott Schaefer and his wife are active members of the Burien Eagles.

The Burien Eagles Aerie #3523 will host a community BBQ fundraiser on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m. at their hall (920 SW 150th Street, map below) to help pay off a $10,000 bill incurred for new floor installation prompted by the discovery of asbestos.

The event — dubbed the “Summer BBQ for the Floors” — will feature smoked brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and classic BBQ sides, with plate tickets available in advance for $18 or $20 at the door.

Attendees will also enjoy bottle raffles, a 50/50 drawing, and a silent auction.

Burien Eagles Secretary Nikki Sharp said the organization moved quickly to address the asbestos issue once it was discovered, resulting in a sizable unexpected expense.

“As you know, we have a huge bill, $10,000, for the new floors,” Sharp said. “From my understanding, it was a rush to get them done because of the asbestos that was found.”

In addition to purchasing tickets, members are encouraged to support the effort by donating side dishes or raffle baskets.

Sharp, who is preparing the smoked meats for the evening, said her brisket and pulled pork have become popular staples at past Eagles events.

“We’re proud to put in the work,” she added, “but we could really use the community’s help to pay off this bill.”
