The annual Community Salmon Investigation (CSI) is about to begin, and local residents are invited to help track spawning salmon in Miller and Walker creeks, with a training workshop set for Thursday, Sept. 25.

For more than 20 years, volunteers have monitored salmon returning to local watersheds each fall, gathering important data to help biologists and local agencies understand fish populations and habitat conditions.

“This dedicated team of volunteers has been counting salmon in the watershed for over two decades — and you can join in on the fun,” organizers said in an announcement.

The CSI program is a collaboration among the Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group, the cities of Normandy Park, Burien, and SeaTac, King County, the Port of Seattle, and the Miller-Walker Creeks Stewardship program.

Training Workshop Will Be Thursday, Sept. 25

Organizers strongly encourage volunteers to attend the 2025 training workshop on Thursday, Sept. 25, 2025, from 6–8 p.m., at Normandy Park City Hall (801 SW 174th St, Normandy Park, WA 98166).

“We will walk you through survey and safety protocols and practice identifying salmon species and measuring and dissecting salmon carcasses.”
