September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and Burien residents are being asked to roll up their sleeves on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2025 to help young patients in need.
Bloodworks Northwest will hold a blood drive at Burien City Hall on Thursday, Sept. 11, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Organizers say blood donations are a critical part of care for children and adults battling cancer.
“Did you know that 25 percent of the blood supply is used by patients battling cancer?” Bloodworks Northwest stated in its announcement. “One in 285 children in America will be diagnosed with cancer before their 20th birthday, and many of these pediatric patients rely on blood donations to support their care and treatment.”
Appointments are encouraged and can be scheduled through the Bloodworks website. Walk-ins will also be accepted as space allows.
City officials said hosting the drive is part of Burien’s commitment to supporting community health and awareness.
“The most direct way to help them is to donate blood,” the city’s announcement said.
Bloodworks Northwest is also offering donors who give blood in September or October a chance to win a trip for two to Tokyo, including airfare, hotel, and tickets to a concert of their choice featuring Lady Gaga, Bad Bunny, or Blackpink.
