A memorial service for Guy MacDonald Harper – a local artist, historian, and longtime Burien resident – will be held at Lake Burien Presbyterian Church on Friday, Sept. 26, 2025, beginning at 1:30 p.m., with a gathering to follow.

Harper, 92, passed away peacefully on Aug. 26.

A native of Three Tree Point, he was a star rower at the University of Washington and helped establish the Ancient Mariners Club in 1986.

In his retirement, Harper became a master wood carver whose civic projects include the arch at Lake Burien Park (with his beloved wife Pam) and the “Conversation Table,” both crafted to encourage community interaction.

He also co-authored a book in 2010 preserving stories from the Three Tree Point area.

Beloved for his generosity and craftsmanship, Harper described “Inspire” as the word that guided his life, helping others and building connection.

As one tribute noted:

“There truly was no guy like our Guy.”
