The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office this week charged Marvin Ortiz Montecinos with two counts of first degree murder in the deaths of Victoria Aparicio Cruz and Yaneth Gomez Hernandez after a horrific attack on Sept. 8 at an apartment in Burien, according to charging documents.
The case, filed in King County Superior Court, alleges Ortiz Montecinos acted with premeditated intent and used a knife.
Prosecutors also filed deadly weapon and domestic violence allegations and listed an aggravating factor that the conduct showed deliberate cruelty.
In a request for bail, prosecutors asked a judge to set bail at $10 million dollars, citing the nature of the charges and evidence outlined in the probable cause certification.
Detectives wrote that a 911 caller reported a wounded man outside the Montrose Apartments at 226 South 152nd Street, across from Highline High School. A blood trail led deputies to a third floor unit where sadly, the two women were found dead.
According to the certification, investigators recovered messages from a phone associated with Aparicio Cruz that showed a conversation with a contact named Marvin a little more than an hour before the 911 call.
Forensic work at the scene revealed a single set of footprints between the bedroom and the front door and blood on the inside of the deadbolt.
Detectives later found a single edged filet knife buried outside along the route of the blood trail.
The Medical Examiner documented multiple, significant stab wounds to both victims, including deep neck injuries and numerous defensive injuries to their hands.
Here’s a description from the probable cause documents on how this horrific event unfolded:
- On Sept. 8, 2025, investigators say Ortiz Montecinos attacked his girlfriend, Victoria Aparicio Cruz, after she had broken up with him earlier that day.
- She was found in the apartment with multiple injuries consistent with an assault.
- His roommate, Yaneth Gomez Hernandez, is believed to have been in the shower and may have tried to intervene.
- She was discovered deceased in the apartment with numerous injuries as well.
- Prosecutors allege both victims suffered fatal wounds to the neck area.
- Evidence gathered at the scene led detectives to conclude the attack was intentional and involved extreme violence.
Further details will come through the court process as the case advances.
Defendants are innocent until proven guilty.
