Lane and ramp closures on I-5, SR 516 and SR 509 in south King County continue this week

Lane and ramp closures on I-5, SR 516 and SR 509 in Burien, Des Moines, SeaTac and Kent continue this week, through the morning of Saturday, Sept. 27, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced.

The lane and ramp closures on I-5 will allow WSDOT crews to stripe the road.

The lane and ramp closures on SR 516 will allow crews to install signage.

The SR 509 lane and ramp closures will allow crews to install signage and pave the road.

This work is part of the SR 509 Completion Project.

I-5 lane closure information 

Monday, Sept. 22 through the morning of Friday, Sept. 26:

• 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. – Up to three lanes of southbound I-5 will close nightly between SR 516 (Exit 149) and South 272nd Street (Exit 147).

Monday, Sept. 22 through the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 24:

• 11:59 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. – Up to four lanes of northbound I-5 will close nightly between SR 509 (Exit 150) and South 200th Street/Military Road South (Exit 151).

Wednesday, Sept. 24 through the morning of Friday, Sept. 26:

• 9:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. – Up to three lanes of northbound I-5 will close nightly between SR 509 (Exit 150) and South 200th Street/Military Road South (Exit 151).

I-5 ramp closure information 

• 9 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. – The northbound I-5 exit to SR 509 will close overnight. A signed detour will be in place.

Tuesday, Sept. 23 through the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 24:

• 9:30 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. – The northbound I-5 exit to SR 516 will close overnight. A signed detour will be in place.

Thursday, Sept. 25 through the morning of Friday, Sept. 26:

• 9 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. – The northbound I-5 exit to SR 509 will close overnight. A signed detour will be in place.
• 9:30 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. – The northbound I-5 exit to SR 516 will close overnight. A signed detour will be in place.

SR 516 lane closure information 

Monday, Sept. 22 through the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 23:

• 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. – One lane of eastbound SR 516 will close overnight between SR 99 and Military Road South.

Monday, Sept. 22 through the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 24:

• 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. – One lane of westbound SR 516 will close nightly between Military Road South and SR 99.

Thursday, Sept. 25 through the morning of Friday, Sept. 26:

• 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. – One lane in each direction of SR 516 will close overnight between Military Road South and SR 99.

SR 516 ramp closure information 

Monday, Sept. 22 through the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 24:

• 11 p.m. to 3:30 a.m. – The westbound SR 516 ramp to northbound I-5 will close nightly. A signed detour will be in place.
• 11:59 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. – The eastbound SR 516 ramp to northbound I-5 will close nightly. A signed detour will be in place.

Monday, Sept. 22 through the morning of Thursday, Sept. 25:

• 11:59 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The SR 516 ramp to southbound I-5 will close nightly. A signed detour will be in place.

Thursday, Sept. 25 through the morning of Friday, Sept. 26:

• 11:59 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. – The eastbound SR 516 ramp to northbound I-5 will close overnight. A signed detour will be in place.

SR 509 lane closure information

Monday, Sept. 22 through the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 23:

• 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. – One lane in each direction of SR 509 will close overnight between South 188th Street and South 176th Street.

Tuesday, Sept. 23 through the morning of Saturday, Sept. 27:

• 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. – One lane of northbound SR 509 will close nightly from South 188th Streetto South 176th Street.

SR 509 ramp closure information 

Monday, Sept. 22 through the morning of Saturday, Sept. 27:

• 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The South 160th Street on-ramp to northbound SR 509 will close nightly. A signed detour will be in place.

Tuesday, Sept. 23 through the morning of Wednesday, Sept. 24:

• 11:59 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The northbound SR 509 exit to South 160th Street will close overnight. A signed detour will be in place.

Thursday, Sept. 25 through the morning of Friday, Sept. 26:

• 10:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. – The 24th Avenue South on-ramp to southbound SR 509 will close overnight.

Friday, Sept. 26 through the morning of Saturday, Sept. 27:

• 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The South 160th Street on-ramp to southbound SR 509 will close overnight. A signed detour will be in place.
• 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. – The southbound SR 509 exit to South 160th Street will close overnight. A signed detour will be in place.

SR 509 Completion Project information

The SR 509 Completion Project builds 3 miles of new tolled highway between I-5 and South 188th Street near the south end of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The new highway will be completed in stages. The portion between I-5 and 24th Avenue South opened on June 28 and a new tunnel under I-5 at the SR 516 interchange opened on July 16. The final stage builds the remaining 2 miles of the expressway between 24th Avenue South and South 188th Street. The entire project is planned for completion by 2029.

Puget Sound Gateway Program overview

The SR 509 Completion Project is part of WSDOT’s Puget Sound Gateway Program, which also includes the SR 167 Completion Project in Pierce County. Together, the two completion projects finish critical missing links in Washington’s highway and freight network.
