Lewis B. Press

Maritime High School student Lewis B. Press has launched a Cold Weather Clothing Drive to collect coats and jackets for Transform Burien, with donation bins placed inside several downtown Burien businesses through the end of December.

Press, a junior at Maritime, is organizing the drive as part of a school project focused on community benefit.

Press said the effort is intended to collect cold weather gear including jackets, parkas and coats for donation to local nonprofit Transform Burien.

Donation bins are located at:

  • Double Dare Records, 22 SW 153rd Street, Burien, WA 98166
  • Hobnobber Bar, 447 SW 153rd Street, Burien, WA 98166
  • Renascent Athletics, 234 SW 153rd Street, Burien, WA 98166
  • Trillium Kids, 823 SW 152nd Street, Burien, WA 98166

The bins are available during normal business hours and will remain in place through the end of December.

Press said he contacted each participating business in advance and received approval to place the bins inside their locations.

Posters displayed in business windows identify the sites as hosts for the drive and note that it was featured on The B-Town (Burien) Blog.

The drive marks the first of two community projects Press plans to complete this school year.

He said the experience will help inform a second clothing drive later in the year that will not be season specific.

Since 2007, The B-Town Blog is Burien’s multiple award-winning hyperlocal news/events website dedicated to independent journalism.

  1. Re: clothing drive. This seems to be another indicator that the ever-maligned “younger generation” is much more thoughtful and caring than they get credit for. Thank you for doing this!
