First-generation immigrant students from Burien’s Highline High School are sharing what belonging means to them through a new student art exhibit titled “Belonging,” now featured at the Highline Heritage Museum, according to the museum.
The window-based exhibit explores what it feels like to belong in students’ first home countries and what helps them feel connected in Highline, including land, community and food, the museum said.
The project invites visitors to reflect on their own sense of belonging and consider ways to help build a community where everyone feels included.
The artwork was created by students who attend Highline High School, highlighting personal stories shaped by immigration, cultural identity and adaptation to a new home.
“As you engage with their art, take moments to think about what belonging means to you, what makes you feel like you belong, and what we can do to make Highline a community where everyone feels belonging,” organizers said.
