Burien resident Gwendolyn Benedict will host a free community sound healing event on Saturday, Feb. 14, also recognized as World Sound Healing Day, at Normandy Park United Church of Christ.

The event is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the church, located at 19247 1st Ave. S. (map below), and is open to all.

Donations will be accepted to support the Burien Severe Weather Shelter, Benedict said.

The program will begin with background information on the ancient tradition of sound healing, followed by a sound bath.

Sound baths are intended to promote deep relaxation, calm the nervous system and release stress, according to the event description.

Participants can just show up, and are encouraged to bring a yoga mat, blanket or pillow for comfort during the session.

Tea and cookies will be served following the sound bath, Benedict said.
