A 60-year-old Carnation man was killed Saturday night, March 21, after his vehicle left the roadway and entered the Duwamish River in Tukwila, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The fatal crash occurred at about 8:51 p.m. near the SR 99 and SR 599 interchange (map below), troopers said.
Investigators said the driver was traveling northbound on SR 99 and took the off-ramp toward Tukwila International Boulevard when he failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle left the roadway, crossed a median into an on-ramp and struck a guardrail before being propelled into the Duwamish River.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the State Patrol.
Troopers said the cause of the crash remains under investigation and it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were involved.
The crash blocked the roadway for approximately three hours as crews responded and cleared the scene, according to the report.
The vehicle involved was totaled.
