A traffic stop in Burien led to the arrest of two individuals, the recovery of a stolen firearm and multiple charges, according to the Burien Police Department.
Police said a deputy conducted a stop Tuesday morning, Mar. 31 and observed that not all occupants in the vehicle were wearing seatbelts.
During the stop, the driver provided a name that was later determined to belong to another person. Deputies said the driver had an active warrant and was arrested and charged with identity theft, driving with a suspended license in the third degree and operating a vehicle without an ignition interlock device.
A passenger in the vehicle refused to identify himself and was arrested for obstruction, police said. During a search incident to arrest, deputies located a loaded firearm in the passenger’s pocket.
Police said the firearm was confirmed to be stolen, and further investigation determined the passenger is a convicted felon who is prohibited from possessing firearms.
Both individuals were booked into jail and their cases will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.
“This incident serves as a reminder that providing false information and possessing illegal firearms can lead to serious criminal consequences,” police said in a statement.
