Renton Civic Theatre will open its production of “Steel Magnolias” this Friday, April 10, bringing a well-known Southern comedy drama about friendship and resilience to the stage.

The play, written by Robert Harling and directed by Karen Cody, will run through April 26, 2026, according to Renton Civic Theatre.

Set in a small Louisiana beauty salon, “Steel Magnolias” follows a close group of women whose friendships are shaped by shared experiences, humor and hardship. The story explores themes of love, loss and loyalty as the characters navigate life’s challenges together.

The production features a cast including Lisa Stromme Warren as Truvy, Eleanor Withrow as M’Lynn, Gemma Kealy as Shelby, Jordan Ahlers as Annelle, Mary Guthrie as Clairee and Kiki Werner as Ouiser. Vanessa Gardner will serve as swing.

Key dates include the opening performance on April 10, an industry night on April 20 and the closing performance on April 26.

The production team includes lighting designer Jacob Viramontes, stage manager Kate Holland, costume designer Rachel Brinn and production manager Tiffany Gardner.
