A man was arrested late Friday night, Aug. 7 after King County Sheriff’s deputies investigated a reported rifle threat at a Burien apartment complex.
Deputies working in Burien began the weapon-related threat investigation at about 6:45 p.m. Aug. 7 after victims reported that a known adult male neighbor had threatened them with a rifle earlier in the day, police said.
The incident was reported at an apartment complex in the 12200 block of Ambaum Blvd. SW (map below).
By about 8:30 p.m., deputies had established probable cause to arrest the suspect. During an initial attempt to contact him, deputies believed he had barricaded himself inside an apartment.
Over the next two and a half hours, police began evacuating nearby residents in the apartment complex, including families with children.
Patrol deputies were assisted by the Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, crisis negotiators, drone operators, K9 teams, a Medic One team and other resources, authorities said.
A command post was established nearby, and deputies obtained a search warrant for the apartment. Some surrounding streets were blocked during the response.
At about 11:08 p.m., the suspect was found near the scene and arrested without incident, according to the Sheriff’s Office. He was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of assault.
No physical injuries were reported.
Authorities said the investigation remained open and active as deputies and detectives continued evaluating the scene and gathering evidence.
