A GoFundMe fundraiser has been launched to support the Angilau family after one son was killed and his twin brother was critically injured in a shooting while the family was attending a funeral in Utah.

Family members say that Soni Angilau was shot and killed as an innocent onlooker during an altercation outside a Latter-day Saint church. His twin brother, Vita, was also seriously injured and is in critical condition.

The twins had recently graduated from Highline High School and were visiting Utah to attend a funeral for their cousin. Both were active players on the Pirates football team.

“The twins had just graduated from high school, making this loss and crisis even more heartbreaking,” Lacie Roth wrote on GoFundMe. “In the midst of deep grief over the loss of Soni, the family is also staying by Vita’s side and praying for his recovery.”

Money raised will help with medical bills, travel expenses and funeral costs while the family remains away from home caring for Vita and mourning Soni.

“This fundraiser is meant to help ease some of the heavy financial burdens the Angilau family is carrying right now,” the GoFundMe says.

The fundraiser also asks community members who cannot donate to share the campaign and keep the family in their thoughts.
