City of Burien residents can sign up to receive a free tree through a limited tree giveaway program, the city announced.

Residents may register to receive one tree and choose from a variety of species, according to the City of Burien.

Quantities are limited.

Trees will be available for pickup Oct. 10, according to the city.

“Looking to add shade, beauty, and value to your property?” the city said. “The City of Burien is giving away free trees to Burien residents this fall. It’s a great opportunity to enhance your landscape while helping expand our community’s urban forest.”

Choose Your Free Tree

Residents may select one tree per household while supplies last:

  • Grand fir – A fast-growing evergreen native to the Pacific Northwest with soft, fragrant needles and a graceful, symmetrical form. Best suited for larger landscapes where it has room to mature.
  • Incense cedar – An attractive evergreen with aromatic reddish bark and dense foliage. It is drought-tolerant once established and makes an excellent specimen or screening tree.
  • Deodar cedar – A majestic evergreen known for its soft blue-green needles and gracefully drooping branch tips. Its broad pyramidal shape makes it a striking landscape tree.
  • Black hawthorn – A small native tree with clusters of white spring flowers followed by dark berries that attract birds and other wildlife. It provides excellent seasonal interest.
  • Pacific crabapple – Washington’s only native crabapple, producing fragrant white blossoms in spring and colorful fruit that provides food for birds and other wildlife through fall and winter.
  • Douglas-fir – An iconic Pacific Northwest evergreen prized for its rapid growth and distinctive cones with three-pointed bracts. An excellent shade tree for large spaces.
  • Weeping willow – A fast-growing deciduous tree with long, gracefully cascading branches. It performs best in consistently moist soils and creates dramatic visual appeal near ponds or open lawns.
  • Sawtooth oak – A hardy deciduous oak recognized for its serrated leaves, dependable fall color, and abundant acorn production that benefits wildlife.
  • Western redcedar – A long-lived native evergreen with rich green foliage and aromatic wood. It thrives in the Pacific Northwest and is an excellent choice for privacy screens or natural landscapes.
  • Western hemlock – Washington’s state tree, this elegant native evergreen features fine-textured needles and gently drooping branch tips. It grows best in cool, moist locations and develops into a stately forest tree.
