The Environmental Science Center will host a free International Coastal Cleanup event Saturday, Sept. 19 at Seahurst Park in Burien, inviting volunteers of all ages and abilities to remove trash from the park’s beach, walking paths and hiking trails.
The cleanup is scheduled from 10 a.m. to Noon.
- Participants should meet near the playground and public restrooms, where a large welcome banner will mark the gathering point.
- The event is part of an international ocean cleanup effort started by the Ocean Conservancy. Volunteers and organizations around the world participate by removing debris from beaches and waterways.
- Children younger than 15 must be accompanied by an adult.
- Volunteers may use cleanup supplies provided at the event or bring their own gloves and buckets.
- The Environmental Science Center also will invite participants to contribute unusual finds to a Salmon Trash Sculpture.
- People who do not register should arrive a few minutes early to complete event paperwork.
