Applications are now being accepted for the City of Burien’s annual Neighborhood Grants Program.

The purpose of the program is to encourage projects that foster community and create community improvements in an equitable manner.

The program will provide up to $5,000 per project.

Community members must match the grant with an equally-valued amount of local resources that could include volunteer labor, donated materials, donated professional services, or funds.

Projects that qualify for a neighborhood matching grant can improve the local community and be completed by the end of 2024. They must be within the Burien city limits and meet other specific criteria.

All projects will be required to have a Neighborhood Project Coordinator to be the liaison between the City and the neighborhood during project development and implementation.

Project applications will be evaluated on the quality of the project, neighborhood participation and benefit, visibility, and benefit to the public.

Last year’s program supported more than 100 new trees and shrubs planted at Arbor Lake, Dottie Harper, Salmon Creek, and Chelsea Parks in addition to helping power a new off-grid renewable energy system for a community garden.
