After more than 50 years serving Burien residents, Siler License Agency has permanently closed, marking the end of an era for generations of residents who registered cars, boats, and more, according to notices posted at their office at 630 SW 153rd Street.
The reason for the closure is that the owner/operators are retiring; signage at that location states:
“After 50+ Years in Business, We Are Retiring! Last Day July 31st, 2025. Thanks for Your Business!“

Siler was a family-owned and operated vehicle licensing business based in Burien. Incorporated in December 1982 and accredited with the Better Business Bureau since 1995, the agency served the South King County community for more than four decades.
For almost all Burienites, Siler was a quiet constant in local life, a place that everyone had to visit when it was time to renew a license. Whether it was registering a first car fresh out of high school, renewing tabs on the family wagon, or transferring the title of a boat bought for summer days on Puget Sound, nearly every area resident passed through Siler’s doors at least once.
The family-owned business specialized in handling vehicle registration, title transfers, tab renewals, and DMV-related services for cars, trucks, motorcycles, trailers, boats, and RVs. They also served commercial clients, including local dealerships and car rental companies, making them a trusted processing partner throughout the region.

Posted signage informs customers that any documents previously held at the office have been transferred to King County. Residents needing assistance are directed to contact the county’s Subagent Liaison Program Team.
“For assistance with all other transactions, please refer to the location of the nearest vehicle licensing office or visit dol.wa.gov to find a location near you,” the sign reads.
The nearest office to this historic one appears to be West Seattle Auto Licensing at 2515 SW Trenton Street.
The closure leaves area residents relying on nearby licensing offices or the Washington Department of Licensing’s online services for vehicle and title needs.

I have not had to go visit them to renew my tabs, I did it via email. I always got them sent to me from Siler agency. Maybe it’s too tough of a business to sell, you would think that somebody would want to buy the business that was this successful.
I’m so sad about this! The staff was always very nice and made potentially overwhelming tasks easy. They will be missed.
I wish I had known I would have run in and said goodbye! I’m sad about this. This these people always made picking up my tabs a happy thing, especially after my concussion and I left them there for 6 months! I’m sad to see them go but I hope their retirement is great!
