The Be Yoga Burien studio in downtown Burien was the victim of a break-in burglary early on Friday morning, Jan. 24, 2025, resulting in the theft of cash and a business credit card.

The incident occurred sometime between 9 p.m. Thursday and 5:30 a.m. Friday, according to Studio Director Hilary Paris.

The suspect or suspects reportedly broke off a lockbox from the building and used the key inside to gain entry through the front door. Upon entering, they left the key on the floor and stole the lockbox. Approximately $100 in petty cash and $40 in donations intended for someone in need were taken.

“They didn’t steal gift cards, as we initially thought, but they did take my business credit card,” Paris told The B-Town Blog, noting the card was canceled before any unauthorized charges were made.

A police report was filed by a team member, and a locksmith has since replaced the lock system with a keypad entry. The total cost of repairs and upgrades was $1,300, adding to previous security-related expenses.

The studio previously experienced vandalism a year and a half ago when their window was smashed, an incident they say was a hate crime targeting their Pride flag.

“The city was supposed to reimburse us for that, but never did,” Paris said.

Also, numerous yoga students have suffered from dozens of break-ins to their vehicles in the side parking lot.

No suspects have been identified in either case.
