A Burien Police deputy arrested a driver this week for suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of drugs after a traffic stop prompted by defective headlights, according to police.
Police said the stop occurred while a deputy was on routine patrol in the city of Burien and observed a vehicle traveling with defective headlights.
After stopping the vehicle and contacting the driver, the deputy noticed alcoholic containers inside the vehicle and signs of impairment, including slurred speech, watery eyes and the odor of alcohol on the driver’s breath.
According to police, the driver admitted to drinking alcohol before driving and agreed to perform voluntary field sobriety tests, which the driver did not pass.
“Well, the driver admitted to drinking but forgot to mention to also [using] cocaine prior to driving,” police said in a statement. “It was found on his person.”
The driver was arrested and booked into jail for investigation of DUI and possession of drugs, according to the Burien Police Department.
