A driver with a prior conviction for vehicular homicide was arrested early Friday, Oct. 10, on suspicion of felony DUI after being stopped by a Burien deputy, according to the Burien Police Department.

Around 2 a.m., a deputy observed a vehicle swerving and posing a hazard to the public in Burien.

Police said the driver displayed slurred speech, stumbled when exiting the vehicle and showed signs of impairment.

A strong odor of alcohol was also detected.

The driver admitted to drinking and impairment, and after failing field sobriety tests, was arrested, the department said. Because of the prior vehicular homicide conviction, the incident was classified as a felony DUI arrest.

Police obtained a search warrant, signed by a district superior court judge, and a blood draw was completed.

The driver was booked into jail.
