National and regional data is showing an alarming trend in 2020; an increasing rate of domestic violence, and the Burien Police Department wants to raise more awareness about domestic violence in our community, including options for police intervention as well as support from other agencies serving our community.
Officer Kaylee Manuel suggested we make a specially marked vehicle to draw attention to this crime in our community and collectively call for an end to violence in the home. The build is complete and starting this weekend, the Burien Police Department will be deploying a domestic violence awareness vehicle on patrol (see photo of cruiser above).
“Officer Manuel is very passionate about domestic violence awareness and she hopes to bring about positive change in our community by driving this specially marked police vehicle,” police said. “During college, Officer Manuel was a member of a sorority that advocated for domestic violence awareness. Officer Manuel is continuing her education by getting a master’s degree in psychology to help her better serve the victims of domestic violence.”
