The 17th annual Burien Empty Bowls held on Friday, Jan. 31, 2025 brought the community together to fight hunger and raised an impressive $24,318 for local food banks, event organizers announced.
That’s an increase of +27 percent over last year’s event.
Hosted by Burien Parks, Recreation & Culture Services, Discover Burien, and the Highline Area and White Center Food Banks, the event welcomed more than 1,000 attendees to support critical food assistance programs in the region.
“The Empty Bowls event provides people an opportunity to come together as friends and neighbors to address the very real issue of food insecurity,” organizers told The B-Town Blog. “Empty Bowls also creates positive and lasting change through artistic expression, inspiring creativity, building community, and raising awareness about food insecurity and hunger in our own backyard.”
The event featured handmade ceramic bowls from artists at Moshier Art Center, along with a variety of soups from local restaurants, celebrating community connections through artistic expression and culinary talent.
Congratulations to this year’s soup winners:
- Best Soup: Centro Neighborhood Kitchen and their Lentil Tortilla Soup
- Best Vegan Soup: Centro Neighborhood Kitchen and their Lentil Tortilla Soup
- Best Facility Soup: El Dorado / Village Concept Senior Living and their Sweet Potato Butternut Squash Soup (also a vegan soup)
A heartfelt thanks was extended to the 100+ volunteers, donors, and attendees who contributed to the event’s success, helping local food banks continue their mission of providing emergency food relief to thousands of families across Burien and nearby cities.
The B-Town Blog is proud to have been a partner again for the 17th time – since the beginning – promoting this great local cause at no charge to organizers.
