The Burning Boat Festival is returning this New Year’s Eve, and organizers say it will again bring a lively mix of community, fire, and fundraising to the Des Moines waterfront.

The event — hosted by the Des Moines/Normandy Park Rotary Club in partnership with the City of Des Moines — will be held Tuesday night, Dec. 31, 2025, from 6 to 9 p.m. in front of the Des Moines Pier, at 410 S. 222nd Street (map below).

Proceeds from the festival will support City Parks and Recreation youth scholarships, aimed at ensuring local children have access to activities that help them play, learn, and grow.

Attendees can expect sponsored fire pits, s’mores and hot cocoa, beer and wine, a DJ, and family friendly activities throughout the evening.

The highlight of the night will be the Burning Boat, where participants can add a written wish, intention, or message of release or remembrance before it is set alight.

Tickets are limited. Prices are $25 for adults and $10 for youth ages 6 to 18. Tickets can be purchased online at:
