Artists from across the Pacific Northwest are invited to submit proposals for illuminated artworks as part of the City of Burien’s 2026 Arts-A-Glow Festival, according to an announcement shared through 4Culture.

The open call seeks new or existing temporary light based artworks to be exhibited during the one day festival on Saturday, Sept. 12, which aims to bring a variety of energetic and engaging experiences to downtown Burien.

Festival organizers are looking for projects that “engage, inspire, and excite audiences,” with an emphasis on light, spectacle, interactivity and celebration. Organizers said they are interested in both large and small scale works, including pieces that create dramatic visual experiences as well as those that offer more subtle and thoughtful interactions.

Applications are open to individual artists and artist teams. New and emerging artists, as well as artists from traditionally or currently underserved communities, including rural communities and communities of color, are especially encouraged to apply.

“New to the art scene but have a great idea? Arts-A-Glow is passionate about growing the local art pool –  a portion of funding is set aside for first time artists and community groups,” organizers said. “Need a little help with your vision? Reach out to the AAG team for a one-on-one virtual meeting.”

Eligible artwork categories include projection mapping, light based art installations or sculptures, interactive installations involving light, and roving performers or groups using illuminated costumes, movement or dance.

All submitted works must feature illumination and use light as a prominent element of the artwork.

Stipends are available in varying amounts depending on the scope and requirements of each project.

“Downtown Burien offers many opportunities for light art of various types and scales.  We are interested in both large and small-scale pieces and in pieces that create spectacle as well as those that evoke more subtle, thoughtful experiences.

The deadline to apply is July 6, 2026.
