With temperatures climbing to 91 degrees on Tuesday, August. 12, 2025, Burien Police deputies paws-ed their patrols Tuesday to save a litter of overheated kittens trapped in an outdoor vent, preventing what could have surely would have been a cat-astrophe.
Deputies responded to a call reporting faint meows coming from the vent. Inside, they found several wide-eyed kittens struggling in the sweltering conditions.
The kittens were removed from the vent and taken to Burien CARES, where they received care, cool air and a safe place to rest.
“Moral of the story: Our deputies don’t just catch the bad guys—they also rescue the purr-fect little citizens of Burien,” police said in a social media post.
Burien Police did not say how the kittens got into the vent, but encouraged residents to be mindful of animals during extreme heat.
In the end, it was a purr-fect rescue—proof that in Burien, even the tiniest citizens can count on a pawsitive outcome.
