The City of Burien will hold a public workshop on Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2025 to explain its annual Comprehensive Plan Amendment application process and encourage community participation in shaping the city’s future.

The session will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. in the Burien City Hall Council Chambers (map below).

City staff will provide details about application requirements, the review timeline, and how residents can engage with the process.

In addition to adopting Ordinance 868 (Housing Code and Zoning Map Amendments) on June 30, the Burien City Council directed staff to explore options for improving public notification and information regarding the annual Comprehensive Plan Amendments application process for 2026.

“Staff will provide further information about the application process, required application materials, and the process timeline for those interested,” the city said.

More info is at the city’s website here.

  1. It is very clear that the City Planning Department is going through the motions to give the appearance of ” a process”. The hurdles will be high and in the end subject to their approval. Their agenda, along with most of the City Council, is well understood. The citizens of the neighborhoods most impacted by the new zoning have made their positions very clear. The staffers at the city are not interested and most of the City Council made it very clear in prior meetings they didn’t even understand what they had already agreed to. There is only one way out of this…… flip the council during elections, then flip the planning commission who serves at the discretion of the council, then fire the Mayor and the planning Director. At that point we can hopefully save Burien from the disastrous path it is on.
