The Rotary Club of Des Moines & Normandy Park, in partnership with the Highline Schools Foundation and local organizations and businesses, has launched its annual “Coats for Kids” drive to collect winter coats for more than 800 students in need across south King County.

The drive runs from Oct. 27 through Nov. 14, with donation drop-off locations in Burien, Des Moines, Normandy Park, Newcastle, and White Center (see graphic below).

Community members are encouraged to donate new or gently used winter coats, ideally ski-style coats with hoods, to ensure students from kindergarten through 12th grade have warm clothing for the cold months ahead.

Donations can be dropped off at 11 community sites, including Auntie Irene’s, B&E Meats and Seafood, Grace Lutheran Church, TiltShift Crossfit, and others, or delivered directly to the Highline Schools Foundation office in Burien.

The project is led by the Rotary Club of Des Moines and Normandy Park and sponsored by Local 32 Plumbers and Pipefitters through Rotary.

“The goal is simple — to make sure every student in Highline who needs a coat has one,” the foundation said in its announcement.
