A woman was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after a collision outside a Safeway store in Burien on Thursday night, Sept. 18, according to the Burien Police Department.
Police said deputies were dispatched late Thursday after a caller reported that a female driver struck his vehicle and appeared impaired.
When deputies arrived, the caller flagged them down as the other driver exited her vehicle.
Deputies determined the woman was under the influence and conducted field sobriety tests, which she failed, according to police.
She was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI and transported to the Burien Police Department.
A search warrant was obtained for a blood draw. Police said one of the department’s certified phlebotomists conducted the procedure before the suspect was booked into jail.
The King County Sheriff’s Office, which provides police services in Burien, said it employs 14 certified phlebotomists who are trained and authorized to perform blood draws as part of DUI investigations.
“Each of our phlebotomists completed a phlebotomy course, holds a current Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist certification, and is authorized by the Phlebotomy coordinator to perform blood draws,” police said.
