DSHS Continues Sun Bucks Program

The Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) is continuing its SUN Bucks (Summer EBT) program. This program provides a one-time $120 grocery benefit to eligible students.

DSHS expects to mail new SUN Bucks cards to all qualified students between mid-June and August 2026. SUN Bucks benefits expire 122 days after they are issued. Families should keep the new card, as it may be used again in 2027 if their student qualifies next school year.

Eligibility is based on family income or receipt of specific state benefits. Nearly 12,000 Highline students already qualify and do not need to take any action. At the time of their qualification, families were sent a notification that they qualify for reduced school fees and SUN Bucks. For general questions about qualification status, families can call 206- 631-3220.

Families whose students are not yet eligible may apply online through the DSHS SUNBucks application online (available in English and Spanish).

To qualify via DSHS application, students must be enrolled in a school providing access to school meals and live in a household meeting federal income eligibility guidelines for free or reduced price meals. Although Highline offers meals at no charge to all students, not all families meet the federal income criteria to qualify for free or reduced meals.

To update a mailing address or for additional information, families may contact the DSHSSUN Bucks Contact Center at 833-543-3230 (TTY: 800-833-6348), Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding holidays.

Families can also subscribe to text alerts about their child’s SUN Bucks status at textsunbucks.dshs.wa.gov.
