The Highline High School Pirates faced a challenging home non-noference game on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024, falling to the Mercer Island Islanders 51-6 in a matchup at Highline Memorial Stadium that tested the team’s defense, spirit and depth.

Sadly, this was a “loser out” game, with Highline the victim of a rough first year in the NPSL 3A league, ending in last place in this tougher division with a 2-7 overall record.

Despite a valiant effort, the Pirates were unable to contain Mercer Island’s offense, let alone produce much of their own throughout the game.

Ultimately, Highline’s efforts weren’t enough to overcome Mercer Island’s scoring, with the game ending in a decisive 51-6 victory for the Islanders.

With this loss, the Pirates will aim to regroup and refocus as they prepare for next season, continuing to develop their younger players and adjust their defensive strategies.
